Abstract

The present article is dedicated to conceptualization in psychoanalysis of what Lacan called “mystical experience” at the seminar “Encore” (1972–1973). The analysis progresses through involving the famous Lacan’s scheme of sexuation, as well as the set theory. As an initial point, the comprehension of love affection within the logic of functioning of the object a or the object-matter of desire, with which the extimate core of the subject’s being is associated, is taken. The reflections are lined up within the logic of searching the potentiality of signifier and enjoyment to get together in the co-ordinates of the subject’s topology. The approach to the junction place of desire and enjoyment is supported by mathematical formalization, which Lacan performs at the crossroad of set theory and topological algebra (Kantor, Russell).

The human beings, according to that, are divided into two unsymmentical parts which do not constitute any integrity. It shall not be spoken of binarity of sexes in the sense of two sexes. There is only one sex in the signifier, masculine, participating in the phallic enjoyment. It is also a question of a sex not completely tied to the phallic enjoyment, which Lacan calls the Other sex. Therefore, we cannot speak of two-sex model. On the masculine sex’ side, the signifier mortifies the enjoyment and expels it, while these elements are not exposed as heterogeneous or extraneous on the Other sex’s side, but, on the contrary, they intersect with each other. By that, on the Other sex’s side, the enjoyment shall not be thought without the phallic one, it is additional (en plus) to the phallic enjoyment. Female, mystical or non-phallic enjoyment appear as one of the Other’s representations. According to Lacan’s thought, the mystic engages into relationship with God from the female position or from the Other sex’s side. The ascetic literature speaks pretty much on this specific position of the subject in regard of the Divine. The ways laid to the Other sex schedule a possible conceptualization of affection wherein a human soul can take part.
